Japanese, US P-3Cs still stuck in collapsed hangar

Officials have admitted they are struggling to recover six Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force aircraft and four US Navy (USN) P-3C aircraft that were damaged in Japan on 15 February when a hangar roof collapsed under heavy snowfall.
A senior official at Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) confirmed to IHS Jane's on 11 March that workers still cannot approach the hanger to check the aircraft because of the risk of further collapse.
"We need to reinforce the building at first to enter," the official said. "It will take about one month to determine the extent of the damage on the aircraft."
The aircraft are three Kawasaki/Lockheed Martin P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft (MPAs), one Kawasaki OP-3C reconnaissance aircraft, one Kawasaki EP-3 electronic intelligence (ELINT) aircraft, one Kawasaki UP-3D ELINT training aircraft, and four USN P-3C MPAs.
