Japan and Israel agree to closer defence ties

Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on 12 May agreed to increase defence co-operation by building "a new comprehensive partnership".
"I would like to develop relations with Israel to their full potential," Abe said at a joint press conference after the summit with Netanyahu, who is the first Israeli prime minister to visit Tokyo in six years.
In a joint statement released after the top-level meeting, the two leaders welcomed the launch of the high-level consultations between Japan's National Security Secretariat and Israel's National Security Council and confirmed that they will hold their next meeting in Israel.
